Renert students win the top 2 spots from among 6,000+ entries in the Autism Awareness coloring contest
Big congrats to two of our students for taking home top prizes in a nationwide colouring contest to raise awareness and money for autism. There were over 4,500 entries submitted from across Canada and a couple thousand from overseas. Every entry submitted raised $1 (from corporate sponsors) which will be donated to Autism Calgary to assist families who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Elena Manina (Div 3) came in first place, winning an iPad. She and her family were invited by the organizers to a private screening of the new Avengers film where she was announced as the winner. Jonathan R. (Div 4) came in second place, winning two Calgary Flames tickets (Centre Ice!)
Julie, both students’ very proud art teacher, says: “I’m particularly happy for Elena as she has faithfully entered many art contests over the years with me and her hard work has finally paid off. On this one she really thought outside of the box, colouring her entry using charcoal pencil which really set her artwork apart from the rest and she took a risk by keeping it fairly monochromatic. Jonathan also was very creative, using mixed media and cutting out portions of the design with an x-acto knife. They both approached it as an art piece as opposed to simply a ‘colouring page’.”
